Reporting to the Director-Bridal & Prestige Jewelry, the Merchandising Manager - Birks Bridal is responsible to meet or exceed the projected sales plans, inventory levels, gross margins, turnover, and strategic plan for the responsible category.  Define short, mid and long term assortment strategies and action plans, market trends and pricing awareness.  Endeavors through product selection and development to build the Birks brand positioning to stature implied by business strategy and goals, with the ultimate customer in mind: conservative, classic, contemporary or connoisseur; and with a solid understanding of the Company’s Brand identity.





To do so, the  Merchandising Manager - Birks Bridal will be expected to…

  • Define the ultimate product mix, discontinuing non-productive SKUs, re-pricing items in the assortment to capture appropriate gross margin or to adjust pricing of one product relative to another (to provide a consistent value message to the customer), identifying redundancies in the assortment and identifying gaps within the assortment;
  • Work with the Planning team to create and update basic product acquisition schedule  and new product opportunity by product area (in accordance with the profit plan financial parameters);
  • Manage evaluation process and determines appropriate disposition of diamond trade-ins;
  • Manage Diamond Engagement Ring pricing process;
  • Partner with Special Order team to maximize sales opportunities in store and ensure a sense of urgency;
  • Identify appropriate assortment additions per evaluation of business trends, market trends and overall financial results and objectives;
  • Lead new product development or acquisition initiatives for area with the use of appropriate business cases and other relevant contextual information;
  • Perform ongoing editing of assortment per performance criteria, market conditions, presentation considerations, brand positioning criteria, etc.;
  • Identify fashion trends and observes the activities of competitors to identify new opportunities;
  • Maintain a consistent dialogue with the retail stores to identify customer product preferences and participates in the development of store level product knowledge process;
  • Identify product marketing and advertising efforts and activities, ranging from in-store to catalogue to newspaper to other campaigns and mediums and ensures optimal execution and thereof;
  • Promote a positive and rewarding working environment through teamwork, recognition and motivational support.

Our ideal candidate has…




  • University Degree in Marketing, merchandising or in Fashion Management
  • Gemological education (an asset)
  • Knowledge of diamonds and the diamond market (an asset)



  • 5 years experience in merchandising in a similar role


  • Must have good organizational and negotiating skills;
  • Must be able to interact with corporate employees, store personnel and outside vendors;
  • Strong client service attitude;
  • Well rounded individuals with broad retailing skills;
  • Interested in fashion, trends, competition;
  • Clear understanding of the Mayors Brand image;
  • Able to evaluate Company’s product offering versus broader marketplace and identify and articulate opportunities;
  • Able to effectively prioritize product initiatives that will have the greatest impact on sales and margin;
  • Exhibits necessary level of ownership for areas of responsibility to ensure that sales and margin results consistently meet or exceed plan;
  • Exhibits leadership in cross-functional activities;
    Solid knowledge of MSOffice (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook);
    Bilingual: French and English (spoken/written).
